Default SS General Officer visor cap, Pekuro

    Hello forum members

I recently joined, and haven't posted much yet. My son and I have also not been collecting for a long time. But we are very enthusiastic and try to read ourselves as well as possible, and compare items with known original as well as known counterfeits before buying. I have also already purchased several books as a reference work. We buy at international auctions as well as reputable websites (as far as we know).

Now I recently purchased a nice SS visor cap and am curious what your opinion is about this version. I hope I have done my research well and that it is original. If not, I have learned another wise lesson.

It is therefore an SS generals visor cap including box. The maker as indicated on the seluloid is Pekuro. The cap was offered at this auction next to the uniform below, which was the property of Leo Petri. Unfortunately I didn't have enough money to buy it.

    This was the uniform:

And this is de visor cap:

I am curious what the specialists have to say about this and hope that I did not make a bad buy.

    Hvm--
Hello, and welcome to the Forum, and thank-you for joining as a Gold Club Member.

I hate to be a downer, but I have yet to see a real Pekuro SS visor to this day (they are commonly faked, however).
Pekuros usually have distinct accordian pleating to the lining, and I am not seeing it here.
Also, the velvet appears loose/wavy, when it should be tight.
Lastly, I have never seen a sweatband tensioner in any Pekuro that I can recall.

However, before making a final judgment, we need to see a 360-degree photos under the sweatband, and close-ups of all piping joinders.

As soon as I have it I will take the photos. Transport took quite a while.

During my research I searched for reference Pekuro's. I have found similar inserts and sweatbands. I think you're referring to the little bow in the back as a sweatband tightener?

    No not the bow!
This is what Stonemint is talking about..

Also the silver frosting on the insignia looks like it is created.. Will let more knowledgeable members chime in on that.. Just my opinion!

Normally the tensioner ring is seen on postwar caps.. As here on one of my postwar caps..

I would agree with stonemint on all aspects of the visor and his knowledge. I would say next time to post here before you make a pick up might save some heartbreak. To buy a generals ss cap when new at collecting is bold and from auction is a big leap of faith.

Here are 2 examples of the Pekuro accordian pleating.
When a hat is rebuilt, the fakers either forget to replicate it, or they stretch out an original lining and flatten the pleats in the process:

Thank you all for the valuable feedback. Learned a lot again. I was not aware of this forum when I bought the visor. I did buy a book, but with the knowledge I have now, it didn't contain the detailed info as shown in this thread.
