I'm in the process of purchasing this cap from an antique store in Germany. The owner of the store said, to his knowledge, this hat belonged to an Otto Hildenbranel who served with the SS Pioniers. The eagle and skull are not the same tone.

IMO you should stay away from this one. IMO a repro.
One more I forgot to add
Can anyone say what is wrong with the cap itself?
It is a poor fake. Here are a few reasons of the reason why:
Fake insignia
Fantasy makers label
Badly fitted liner
Badly fitted sweatband.
Cheers, Ade.
PS: Welcome to the forum!
Thanks to everyone, saved me a bit of money! Not to discredit this seller though, I have an RAD dagger that I'm 95% sure is real. Also bought a map case with a soldatbuch and map/propaganda poster from him for a very good price.
Welcome to the forum. It was good fortune that you decided to ask opinions of this cap first as it is indeed a reproduction.
