Waffen SS Side Cap?

My father picked up this hat for me at a flea market years ago. He is no expert on German militaria and I have always assumed it was a fantasy piece until I saw a similar hat on this site (Waffen SS M 40 side cap Feldmuetze)
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the corrected photos. I'm not a fan of the eagle but I think the skull stands a chance. I look forward to see what others think of this one.

For me shape and fabric look rather like a GDR product. Any stamps inside? Is there anything written on the little white piece of fabric inside?

Thank you, ErWeSa; I am almost certain this hat has been through the wash at least once. There are no markings on the inside. Here's a close up of the tag - it looks to me like someone wrote their name?

Looks like "Loreff". I am no specialist for side caps, but so far I have never seen such a tag in an original cap. The specialists will know on first sight. Hopefully for you I'm wrong!

The white tab is a standard DDR/NVA sidecap feature. I'm no expert on WSS sidecaps, but here's a gabardine quality NVA example for comparison.
