Here's a jaunty little Tam I own....Kings Own Scottish Borders. Fairly contemporary, compact, I'm guessing 1980's or so. Made from scratchy olive serge with a black cloth crown lining. Very small size and shows use. Scottish Miltary Tailors, Edinburgh. I think badge is backed by Hunting Stewart tartan (?)....anyone on that.

    Cheers!

Looks good Nigel. My example is an earlier version, circa 1940's but undated so hard to be precise as is the case with many items of British headgear and Scottish caps in particular. It had been stripped and I rebadged it for the Gordons. Sadly it still needs a Toorie to complete the restoration.

Cool Tam and I like the Gordon touch. I think the black lining has been pulled off the inner band of my Tam, what do you think? Raw wool does not seem right.

A closer look indicates it was made like that and had no lining around the band.

Modern Tams are so skimpy they are really just cloth berets but old style large ones would not be suited to modern warfare.

For sure and I really dislike the berets worn by the U.S. troops now....they're formed so strangely. WWI period pix do show alot of Brit/Scot bonnets in the trenches though....esprit d' corps.
