Cleaning advice for a Bullion badge F.S. cap
Ive recently bought a rather nice officer quality coloured side cap to the Royal Corps of Transport and it had a bullion badge and piping. The thing is its filthy!!So my question is what is the best course of cleaning it?Would it stand up to dry cleaning?I would hate to damage it.

Re: Cleaning advice for a Bullion badge F.S. cap
I recently cleaned a Queen's own Hussars beret and I used a damp sponge on the inside lining and sweatband and a damp soft brush on the exterior, which worked fine, though the badge is a bi-metal and there was no bullion piping.
Regards,
Jerry
Whatever
its just an opinion.

Try a soft bristle brush and gently brush over the badge, this should remove dust and any dirt within the bullion strands, if the bullion is discoloured ie tarnished theres not much you can do to clean it without damage, another method is to place a piece of muslin cloth over the end of a hoover pipe and hoover the dust and dirt away but watch for any strands that may be lifted, i wouldnt trust it to dry cleaning as its an aggressive treatment

I wouldn't dry clean it either. I use the brush attachment of my vacuum cleaner to get rid of any dust on thing like this, as it has very soft bristles and ***** well If it's really grimy you could try pressing it with an iron and a damp clean cotton cloth. That will often lift dirt out gently from a really dirty piece.

An iron is a thing use for ironing clothes. It looks like this:
If you are going to try it, use the steam setting and use some clean white cotton or similar cloth - nothing coloured. I would get rid of any dust first with a vacuum first.

Ask your wife what? ... to ask the maid if she knows?
