Historical cap, did you buy it knowing about the owner or find out from research after you got it?
    Regards,

    Jerry

It was described as Winch's cap on Ebay & I was the only bidder.
I looked him up in my copies of the history of the 6th Guards Tank Brigade & the two volume history of the Grenadiers in WWII.
Both sources confirmed his death & later MID.
On the "other" forum, someone came up with a photo of his portrait as a child in 1932.
As a collector of medals & militaria to the Grenadier Guards, I was thrilled to get this cap.

Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Thought I would also show the medals of Gdsmn John Widdowson, of HQ Sqdn, 4th Grenadier Guards, 6th Guards Tank Brigade.
He may well have known Lt. Winch.
