Default Royal Artillery Officer's Beret WW2

    Hi,
I am trying to clarify what colour beret an officer in the 55AT Regt RA (Suffolk Yeomanry / Loyal Suffolk Hussars) would have used in the Second World War.
Black possibly, unless this was exclusively for the Royal Armoured Corps.
After googling I found a photo of a dark blue beret but that sounds a bit unlikely.

The only photo I have found of an officer in the Suffolk Yeomanry unfortunately was wearing his normal officer's peaked cap.

The Regt operated Archer self-propelled AT guns so I presume that berets would have been used while in action and in the field.

    Hope someone can assist.

    Thanks.

    David

The dark blue ie Navy Blue (can look like black) would be correct for an RA officer but in general WWII field service the khaki FS cap (looks like a beret) was worn by ORs.

Black berets are RAC specifically RTR

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

I saw this and thought this is quite a specialist subject which I could only answer by researching it and thought, so could the thread starter instead of asking us to do it, so I did not do the research as the answer is not something I want to know.

Thanks to Mark and Jerry B.
Apologies if I seemed a bit impatient. Was not my intention. Agree am not often on the War Relics Forum (most of my activity is on jeep forums and sites). But when one needs something very specific and rather unusual then WRF is the place to go. Amazing what a lot of members collect or have in-depth knowledge on.

I tend to agree with Jerry on this. if you can't wait for someone to reply, then you should try researching yourself - and you may find to do so is very rewarding. And perhaps those 75 views you had, were from people who read your post and realised they couldn't help you. As an ex gunner, I can tell you that RA officers wore dark blue berets - as did all ranks.

    Cheers,
    Steve

were the RA wearing berets in WWII? Late war the khaki beret comes into use, but I would assume they were wearing side caps or sd caps for most of the war

Perhaps my post was a bit misleading, I should have said: 'During my time in the Artillery.' My late Uncle Arthur served in the Royal Artillery during WW2, and in every photo I have of him, he is wearing the side cap. The Khaki general service cap seems to have been the standard headwear up towards the end of WW2 for RA personnel, but there are examples of RA officers blue berets in circulation that are claimed to be WW2 issue. But as with any beret, the badge on it isn't necessarily the badge that has always been on it.
