Re: Allgemeine-SS Sonderanfertigung Visor

excellent thread - thanks to FB and others for winkling out details for us in both text-n-pix. so interesting to see the Absolutism of the not-so-distant past given its just reward. it may drive some crazy to see the "generics" in unexpected places, but a FB suggests variations are a notable part of the temper of those times. and now, these.
the postings are valuable and much appreciated.
Dear colleague, thank you kindly. I am glad all of this is of use to you and I am also grateful to our other associates here for their contributions.
The variations are interesting and if we can make them tangible and understandable, such helps collectors to deal with the scattered bits of the past and their tendency to trick us, especially when we become dogmatic and rigid in the face of chaos and uncertainty.
Happy headwear.
Happier Sonderanfertigung.
PS The term Sonderanfertigung is still used in the German apparel trade. There is nothing national socialist about it at all. I even have a sports jacket with such a tag, and it was not made by the RZM at all.

Re: Allgemeine-SS Sonderanfertigung Visor
Here a Clemens Wagner cap likely from 1938/9.....

Re: Allgemeine-SS Sonderanfertigung Visor
another....in a less pleasing state...some one glued the peak back on this Wagner cap, which is noteworthy for its flimsy construction and weak thread. Once more, please do not quote me, but I have seen more than one of these disintegrate in certain of its parts. But the Sonderanfertigung model from this contractor is rare in my experience. This cap was or was not for a Fahnenjunker.

Re: Allgemeine-SS Sonderanfertigung Visor
According to Saris and his vol. IV the Sonderanfertigung style of cap for officers was phased out in the course of 1936. I am not sure this statement is absolutely true with the evidence, but it bears keeping in mind that these caps for officers are rare and of early make.

Very interesting. I wonder to what publication they are referring to to make that claim?

Please remind me, did we ever find an association with the meaning of the * in these tags?

It will be interesting to see what this one went for:
WWII Allegemeine-SS Officer's Peaked Visor Cap
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
