    Default Gestapo hat!

    Hello all.

Showed Chris ( Stonemint ) this one the other day and he liked it.
So wanted to share it here aswell...
Saw one of Stonemint´s threads on sd and gestapo headgear and i do have an alleged gestapo hat coming from an estate of a widow who´s husband alledgely was in the gestapo here i Denmark.
I have no other provenance other than her Words to back it up!

Sold in the thirtees-fourtees in a hat shop in Copenhagen, Imported from Germany.
very nice materials... Think the hat style is called HOMBURG sure someone will know...
Just a funny item in the Collection...

    enjoy.

    Best regards,

Hahaha, I love it. Maybe Herr Otto Flick (of the Gestapo) himself wore it

    Gestapo hat!

    If only it could speak!!

    Regards

    Mark

PS Yes the style is known as Homburg but there is some variance within the style according to maker and general geographic location. For instance; Winston Churchill was fond of the Homburg hat but his never looked like the "Gestapo" archetype!

Yes, Gestapo connection aside the Homburg hat is thought to have come to wider public attention after King Edward VII visited the tourist resort of Bad Homburg in Germany in the late 19th century and picked up what was to become something of a fashion icon at the hat factory there.
However, Kaiser Wilhelm II had worn a very similar hat whilst hunting for some years earlier.
A truly iconic hat throughout the world for many decades but undeniably German and of course thanks to the 20th century film industry indellibly linked to those nasty chaps in black leather trench coats.

See how this hobby of ours leads in so many directions?
