    Hello all,

The title says it all - this cap is coming up for auction soon, and had caught my eye. It's in extraordinarily good condition for its age - assuming it is, in fact, genuine. The condition alone gives me cause for doubt, as I have become very wary of things that seem too good to be true. To my amateur eye it looks technically ok, based on the very basic research I've done. The condition alone is what's giving me pause right now. But I'll let you fellows have a go. I know I'm guaranteed to learn something, as always.

100% original, and it is a beauty--good luck!

Wow, that's good to hear. I've become such a cynic about everything. Nice to know things like this are still out there!

It's a nice minty Schelly. It's on my saved list too. We may be bidding against each other.

This hat just set the world record price for an EM/NCO Infantry--with Commission, it went for:

    US$2940

Perhaps fortunately, I will not be the one to appear in the Guinness Book of Records holding it and looking traumatised.

Yep. When I logged on and saw where the bid was this morning, it got crossed off my list. And that was well before it reached the hammer price.

Same thing with several other lots. As I was telling MAP, I am insanely curious who some of these bidders are. Do they know better, but are so wealthy they don't care? Or are they "closet collectors" who do not interact with anyone and have no feel for the market - don't go to shows, don't get on forums, don't have fellow collector friends to tell them they are stupid, etc. etc. I'll probably never know unless they are on a forum and I see them post their new trophy.

Was just discussing this too. I mean, there was that recent Hermann Historica auction where someone paid like 8000 euro for a fake SS kepi I had put up in the Cap Authentication Forum just for fun, as well as a few other fake SS caps that went for similar sums. Money =/= sense I guess.
