Any thoughts on this old beat-up Italian M-28 helmet that may have been used for the German Army? Thanks.

Thanks for the post. 100% authentic Italian sun helmet. As to the German shields attached, anyone’s guess. Could have been done wartime or post-war.
There are plenty of photos of German soldiers wearing these Italian helmets in N Africa, and even a few with these Wappenschild and Hoheitsadlers affixed to them.
Without any provenance, it’s hard to say.
Great collector’s piece regardless.

Very sorry to come on the late in this thread.
I have a couple of these. They were indeed used in north Africa, but also in southern Europe, by all three branches of the Wehrmacht, as well as the WSS. Unfortunately, there's no doubt that the one presented here is a recent put-together item, we see those enhanced italian helmets pop up regularly. I would stay away from it or return it, if by chance it's still time to do so. Only worth a set of WH shields beside a now ruined 2nd model italian pith... and not in the best shape to boot.
