M43 Luftwaffe cap Rbr. 0/0501/0015 1944
Hello
I have a question please.....no photos at the moment but will post them asap.
I have seen a salty M43 Luftwaffe cap maker 0/0501/0015 dated 1944 size 58 I think...blue-grey rayon liner, two buttons on front, chinstrap loops, slightly bent visor, construction identical to others on this forum and elsewhere....salty interior and slightly dirty outside...well used...but not too much, not worn out....the cap and eagle is I am sure original, but it has no cockade...just the eagle hand sewn as they all are.. and not sewn through the liner...eagle wear and colour commensurate with the rest of the cap... looks original hand sewing as identical to other caps...not put on post war..no evidence it ever had a cockade and I think I am right that these cockades were machine sewn on slightly overlapping the swastika of the eagle...cap has no marks or threads where the cockade usually is...I don't think it has been removed and to do so would have required great dexterity and patience.....and removed why??..If removed as POW the insignia would not have been removed carefully...so I think this cap was made like this with eagle only.....I know this manufacturer used several variations of two piece insignia...has anyone seen one with just the eagle? Perhaps late 1944 manufacture and couldn't be bothered to sew a cockade which would have been hidden behind the flaps of the cap anyway? I think eagle is the original....any thoughts? I know there are many guys out there with good knowledge of this manufacturer...have you ever seen a cap with just the eagle..the guy selling it is very elderly and says it came out of the Ardennes early 1945...perhaps very late 1944 made with no cockade?.......thanks for your help....Tommy
