Muetzenfabrik

Article about: F.B. Reichenbach is about 10 km (6 miles) away from me. If you want, I'll make a photo of the building. If it is still standing.

What a document! Thanks for showing Erel!

The text from July 4, 1944 reads:

"I acknowledge the receipt of your letter from 28 last month together with the enclosed 80 coupons.
Unfortunately I cannot produce the desired fieldcaps in light summer quality as I do not dispose of the fabric for these. As soon as I will get Extramützen from the manufacturing again you will receive a small consignment."

The proof of the late-war shortages. No caps without coupons, but even if one had the coupon, no caps for lack of fabric (not to speak of the lack of labour, energy, etc. etc.). Yet production went on until the end, even on a small scale.

Interesting also the change of address from Alexanderstraße to Bischofstraße, the telephone number changed, too. Of note as well RB-No. and RZM No.
Thank you for the translation. This is, of course, of interest to those of us who follow the course of dwindling supplies and labor as a result of the war. The change of address is not without significance. From the Bundesarchiv of Mitte in July of 1944:

    Muetzenfabrik

The Reich was quickly and thankfully headed towards the end of the line. The Mitte district where Alexanderstraße is located was being turned to ruins by the British air-raids. Despite the destruction, business was still conducted to the best extent they could possibly muster by the craftsmen we study today. Madness when one views it all in perspective.

    Best,

    CMH

Still in business in 1950 ! And using the EREL Logo together with the name Robert Lubstein.
Also note that the addition “Sonderklasse” disappeared in the logo.

That has to be the clearest photo I have seen of the interior of a Muetzenfabrik--I would have to believe it is from one of the "Big 5" makers.
Terrific pic, and thanks for posting.....

I knew your trained eye would see the Erel paper tag on the Sweatshields.
