I have a chance to purchase this visor. Did my research feel that it is original and correct but just want others opinions. I understand it is missing the chinstrap but it is in very nice condition.

Knowing now that it's all good, as per stonemint's input, I too have to chime in and say it's surely a nice looking piece! Good luck adding this to your collection.

Now, not to derail this from the OP visor but, still on topic, is the difference between this kind of "high top" and the flatter ones simply down to different makers?

slados--yours could be a Form 3 period upgraded to Form 4 to conform to the new insignia regulations.
Roughly, the "wehrmachtschnitt" did not start being popularly adopted until 1939.

Usually, but not always-- I have seen Form 4s that were not saddle-shaped.
