Re: Post Your Kaiserreich (Imperial) Headgear!
Hi Tony- I wasn't aware of this specific usage of caps for stretcher bearers. I'm not partial to the way the band fits on the cap, the finish on the visor (looks artificially aged), or the lack of markings. Can you post better pictures? My concerns could be completely unfounded...

Re: Post Your Kaiserreich (Imperial) Headgear!
Hi Arran,
No worries, your concerns are not unfounded looking at the pictures I posted, I would raise the same issues myself. Always happy to discuss any cap I post, Everyday is a learning opportunity.
This cap has some non standard construction elements which make it worth extra analysis.
The cap was really dirty when I got it and the only option was to wash it ! The result was amazing and the cloth has come clean especially the inside lining but left the peak looking as it is, as you say artificially aged. I don't think it is and it certainly has the crazing and cracking of the leather found on other pieces I have.
The lack of markings is also a shame but not always a bad thing.
The other valid point you raise is the band fitting to the cap. The cap has an extra row of material effectively acting as a sweatband and the peak joins the cap through this. This is very unusual for this type of cap.
The cap band is 3cm (against 2.7cm by regulation) and the height of the cap is above the 8.3 cm regs by a good 0.5cm so can't even pin it down this way.
Any other opinions welcome. I will post more pics to assist tomorrow as it's late here and need sunlight.....if we get any through the rain!
cheers

Re: Post Your Kaiserreich (Imperial) Headgear!
I agree, not military. Most likely a very early Deutsches Rotes Kreuz visor. (The book on civil visors of the KR and Weimar era still needs to be written.....)
