Ladies & Gentlemen, I present for your review the 3 Parade Dress Tschakos for the Polizei. The Parade Dress Paradebusch was authorized in 1937 for all Polizei NCO's & Officers. Black horse hair was worn for NCO's; white buffalo hair for Officers; & the rarest of all, red horse hair for Police bandsmen:
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
This is an officer's Shako for the Gendarmerie, or Rural Police. Gendarmerie is designated by the brown trim. Only officers wore the chinscales in lieu of a chinstrap. The eagle is much more detailed and has more of a 3-D effect than the NCO models pictured above and below--it is also frosted with polished highlights. Officer Tschakos used an elastic band hidden behind the scales to hold the brush in place. The white buffalo hair is finer and "frizzier" than the horsehair of the NCO's:
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
An ultimate find!! I never seen them with the horse hair , or I really never given notice as the horse colors washed out in the black and white photos of the time. Your user name precedes you,, as they are a great and beautiful find!! Regards Larry
