My son recently purchased a nice Heer Artillery visor cap through Hermann Historica. The red piping is very nice in contrast and the cap has no moth holes. The next purchase he is saving money for now, is a matching uniform.

Unfortunately, the sweatband is quite worn out and the visor has come a bit loose from the edge. Can this be fixed? And if so is there a reliable address for that?

And to finish this exposition, a shot of his display case. The photo is from an officer. We could not yet find a matching photo.

Apparently BenVK who used to join this forum some years ago is a specialist for repairs. It is not a big problem to fix the visor/peak. More difficult is the sweatband - it is in a very bad state so that you'd have to find a suitable period one which is near impossible as nobody would sacrifice one for a WH artillery cap (if at all, such a sweatband would be transferred to one of the 10 K + caps) and it would mean to spend some hours of stiching with original thread using the original holes. All that would cost almost as much as the cap itself if not more. But it can be done.

That sounds complicated indeed. But just re-attaching the visor with some stitching is maybe worth the investment?

I surely would do it/have it done. It is a nice cap. Get yourself a leather needle (round tip) and a suitable thread (silk for buttonholes) in a suitable colour and try to find the original holes in the cardboard stiffener of the centerband. Be careful so that the stiffener doesn't break. The needle must come out in the seam of the piping so that the stitches can't be seen as in this one I made:

Thanks. I will give it a try soon. Ill update with photos when successful.

p.s. is there anyone who has a photo with a soldier wearing such a cap with a matching uniform? I printed the foto next to the cap, but that's actually a officer version. Doesn't have to be highres. Just enough to print one for the display.

Very nice one. Did they wear a belt and an edged weapon with that to? Or only on special occasions?

It was a difficult job, but it worked out in the end. Unfortunately not quite as it was once done, but at least the cap is stuck again. During this work we also came across a label from the manufacturer. We had not seen this before because we actually did not dare to fold the sweatband. As fragile as he is. Nice detail in my opinion.
