    Good evening,
I was just perusing the IWM website and came across these - though some might find them interesting. Beautiful caps IMHO.

Oh and there was some caps labelled as concentration camp ones. Somebody on here has said that in their opinion you shouldn't trust anything Holocaust related regarding clothing, so I wonder what people think of these.

Yes, I had that in my mind but I didn't say it because who am I to doubt them?

Question is do THEY know (and thus betray the visitors) or do they simply not now better (they should have experts, shouldn't they?)

I would personally think that they wouldn't intentionally deceive visitors, maybe they do not have the practical knowledge like the collector community has? Or maybe the caps came from IWM trusted sources, and the issue regarding authenticity goes further up the 'supply chain' as such.

    Kind regards

    Hello,
I do not want to comment on these caps or what collectors can think about them, i just wanted to post in this thread to tell a little anecdote about some public "war" museums and the way they deal with items. When my friend and associate passed away in 2008, i was approached by a big museum in Germany, via a good friend who was working there, as they wanted to get Heer items for their museum collection. I sold them what they wanted from the selling list. The sale went very well until they received and "checked" what they had bought. From this moment, it went wrong. Those who opened the package, thought that they had been ripped off because all items were in tremendous condition. They tought all items were reenactment stuff...my friend and the museum curator were called in emergency to report the ripping off....when my friend saw the items, he asked where was the problem as for him, everything on the table in front of him was conform to what was bought from the list...they simply made History studies and he is an advanced Heer collector. Of course, the curator believed what he said and now the items are on display in the museum...Not all people involved in museums is a specialist about uniforms and equipment. They studied History and got degrees that's all...if they don't hire at least one person who can help them out, they're lost...
There is also those who perfectly know that items they display are sometimes bad...but who cares ? only collectors in forums
    Thanks

    Thanks

All the skulls and eagles that those caps show in post #1 are fakes.

All 3 SS visors posted are fakes. They even have a fake Sepp Dietrich visor there if I recall correctly.

Wow, it seems that nobody is immune from it. The question is, as ErWeSa said, are they doing it intentionally?
