    Default German Crosses in Gold

Was revisiting my DKiG collection tonight and decided to snap a couple photos while I had them out. The "loose" crosses at the top are kept in their own display cases because I know who wore them and they belong to larger groupings. The cloth and light Zimmermann on the left belonged to Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Hildebrandt, Panzergrenadier-Regiment 66/13. Panzer Division, who was wounded more than once but survived the war. Awarded the DKiG on 12 August, 1944. The damaged Juncker at top right belonged to Hauptmann, later Major, Joachim Tiesler who earned his DKiG in dramatic circumstances at Stalingrad. He was a Batterie Kommandeur in Artillerie-Regiment 3 (Mot.) / 3. Infanterie-Division (Mot.). Tiesler was wounded at Stalingrad during the actions that earned him the DKiG and was evacuated. Unfortunately, after recovering he was sent back to the Front and was killed in action at Zamosc, Poland on 21 July, 1944.

Wow, Todd. I did not know that you had such authentic wonders and, in addition, some with such an interesting story. I'm glad you took and uploaded these photos.

Thanks for posting that Will. The comments in the margin about his marriage are interesting. I have finance department documents sent to his wife in 1956 about his military service.

A very nice collection of German Crosses Todd!
It's even more special by the fact of knowing who earned, or wore them.
    Congrats!

    Wonderful collection, Todd.
I have only ever handled one (1) DKIG and I was surprised by how heavy they are.
    A very substantial award.
