Shiny. I just sold my 50 year cross to a friend. I thought I was gonna keep it but redirection of collection needed funds!!

I stopped with badges & tinnies after a month or two but I saw this relatively rare badge last month and am glad I bought it, heavy and lovely enamel

And my first love is KVK1 but when you see a KVK2 no swords in this condition, it's difficult not to like

Thanks, it was stunning when I bought it a few years ago but after I posted these old original photo's I decided to take it out of the case again and was shocked to see that it had become badly tarnished. I'm not sure why this happened as I've had it in a glass case along with other medals out of direct sunlight. I know that cleaning items is generally frowned upon but I wonder if in this case it would be justified. I would be cleaning off the tarnish buildup on the silver wash not a nicely aged patina. If so, what would I use on this ?

Sorry for messing up this minty thread with crusty photo's

Aldo, the EKII I posted has the same issue. Nonetheless, it is a mint example (minus the tarnish) because it has not been cleaned or polished. I think we just have to accept certain things like aging. You have done everything you can short of sealing up the medal in a vacuum to protect it. I would not polish it. Another thing that really bothers me is the so called "zinc pest" that ruins the Ostfrontmedaille. That is a chemical reaction we cannot halt. NH

Has anyone done a thread like this for posting your "rarest" items?
I would love to see what hidden treasures people have.
