I rescued this display cabinet from the garbage at work many years ago. It's a 1950's era industrial type steel cabinet that has withheld the test of time. I repainted it battleship gray with the intention of displaying my helmets. I made the mistake of bringing it down to the basement years ago and I have not been able to get it back up to the main floor because of it's massive weight. Today I managed to slowly get it up the stairs and I couldn't be happier. I have extra display space and even more room for some reference books. It's a work in progress but it has a lot of potential.

Industrial cabinets are the best if you like the aesthetics. The build quality is usually up to the standards that it could last more than a lifetime, especially from the 50's to the 80's. I personally love them and have some myself. My main collection is displayed in an old medicine cabinet from Eastern Europe. Great pickup and display friend. Like you mention, the steel makes them real heavy. Stahl und Stahlhelme!

I agree Al. The piece of furniture has a lot of potential. And I really like the current result.

Fantastic Al. Love these repurposed cabinets. The lighting is just icing on the cake.

I would however, convert the lower part to be a slide out bar. How cool would that look.

    BTW...fantastic room and collection.
