I’ve never been much of a photographer, however, I have found that part of the enjoyment in putting together this collection has been photographing it. Displaying the collection in an aesthetically pleasing manner while maintaining a cohesive theme is my ultimate goal. I recently spent some time at the V&A in London and went away with thoughts about my collection after viewing the museum’s collection of garments. Once space permits I would like to get these items behind glass in an appropriate archival display, laid out with some period documents such as regulations and the RZM license. I don’t wish to glorify a repugnant regime with my display, rather, I would like it to elicit reflection upon the use of propaganda, exclusivity and elitism, the pent up anger of a generation of the unbound, and a multitude of other societal ills steeped in a long history of racism that a bunch of thugs leveraged to twist and corrupt many otherwise average members of a society - people like the tailors and cap makers that put these things before you here together - into the madness of that murderous party. It’s more complicated than this, of course, as this is only one facet of a much larger theme.
For now, a bit of a birds-eye view of the majority of the SS textiles in my collection:
This thread emphasizes the dynamic nature of our collections and how they grow and evolve with our interests and our understanding of the historical context of the pieces we display.

Great collection. Those black uniforms exude power and authority in an uncanny way. More so than the grey uniforms. The designers of the black uniform as well as other regalia such as Karl Diebitsch, Heck and the tailors like Hugo Boss gave a gang of street thugs and brawlers an image that attracted and repelled at the same time. This was power dressing at it's most effective. Never has a uniform been designed that was as intimidating as these. Wear this uniform and you gain personal power. Strap a holster onto the belt and the power goes up another notch.
