    I just had a look through this entire thread and I learned a fair amount from it. You have an amazing collection. You should write a book with the knowledge you have of these medals

    About the “Portuguese Combatants League” Symbol and the “Portuguese War Cross Medal”:

    The cross in the “Combatants League of the Great War” symbol is like the Portuguese war Cross. This type of cross with the ends of the arms convex and curved, like as explain in other posts, it’s called “Alisee" (French Croix Pattée Alésée Arrondie). You can see that like the Portuguese War Cross, the Combatants League symbol have the Portuguese National Emblem on the center of the cross.

    I recently had the real proof that the “Combatants League” symbol was inspired by the Portuguese War Cross.

    This is a photograph was taken in the “Oporto city Combatants League” to one of the frames existing on the wall of a room, where you can read the following in the last paragraph:

    Translated literally into English:

    “…The small war cross in the lapel, in its simplicity, without arrogance or provocation, means only months ahead, camaraderie in difficulties, dangers that faced and won, fears that felt, times of absence of surroundings wanted, fingers on the trigger , the "manche" and the "rudder", and also new temper in the soul, in the eyes the vast horizons of the chanas, and the distressing narrowness of the forest tracks, in the legs the sticky brake of the bolanhas and the mangroves, in the ears and in the nerves or the disorderly firing of canangs and explosions and the rattle of fine guns...”

    Military recipients with more than one Portuguese War Cross Medal:

    Anyone who finds this subject interesting and has carefully observed the photographs posted about the Portuguese War Crosses in the Military and Navy Museums of Lisbon, has certainly noticed that one of the ribbons of a Portuguese War Cross from 1917 Model had two miniatures of the cross to indicate two equal or different classes.

    During and after the Great War 1914-1918 (WWI), the military, combatants or war veterans, who were awarded more than one Portuguese War Cross Medal, almost always wore only a War Cross, and on the ribbon of that War Cross they put two or three cross miniatures of the class of the War Crosses they won in Combat.

    Sample of an Portuguese War Cross 1917 Model With three miniatures on the ribbon:

    Portuguese War Cross Collection

    This Great War (WWI) recipient, was awarded with three Portuguese War Crosses:

    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 1st Class;
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 2nd Class;
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 3rd Class.

    The military, combatants or war veterans of the Portuguese Overseas (Guerra do Ultramar), during the years 1961 to 1974 and today, use all the Portuguese War Crosses assigned to them, the case already posted previously is the War Hero and Hero of Portugal Mr. Marcelino da Mata, who uses his five Portuguese War Crosses of side by side.

    Mr. Marcelino da Mata Portuguese War Cross Medals:

    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 2nd Class (July 26, 1966);
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 1st Class (May 9, 1967);
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 1st Class (April 21, 1971);
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 3rd Class (June 9, 1973);
    - Portuguese War Cross Medal in the 1st Class (August 22, 1973).

    Mr. Marcelino da Mata is the Portuguese military most decorated in the History of the Portuguese Army. Including the Portuguese who has the record of having received more Portuguese War crosses to this day. A living legend... Mr. Marcelino da Mata (My Tribute and all my respect).
