Then glad to help. Just to revise one comment. I probably shouldn't have referred to the M1898 parade bayonet you have as a "quill back" as that was the combat version which had a different blade with a shape at the tip like a quill. For these walking out type they fitted a flat sided blade without a fuller, as that was easier to etch. Same situation with the M1871, the combat version had a blade with a fuller. Both types would have been used up until about the time of the First World War.
