He wuld have to have the rank of at least SGT to be able to qualify for pilot's wings mate.. also the ribbon for the DFC is for officer ranks only.

The seller actually told me that the DFC ribbon was most likely not original to the uniform so that i was aware of however could that also be the case for the wings then?
If so that's a real shame.

Sorry to hear that Tobias, the NCO pilots could qualify to wear the DFM (Distinguished Flying Medal) but not the DFC, which was awarded solely to
Officer ranks. Due to the shortage of qualified officer pilots during the war Other Ranks/NCO's were trained as pilots and once they had their wings they were
promoted to SGT. Quite a few went on to higher ranks of course as their careers went on ("Ginger' Lacy is a good example of an NCO pilot that
was a Squadron Leader at the end of the war, and the RAF's top scoring ace during the Battle of Britan).
