Been looking for a copy of this for some time. One appeared on Amazon Marketplace - with no photo and very basic description - at a very reasonable £20 . Pleased when it arrived in mint condition -
But oh - that's a shame - someone had scribbled inside....
A nice surprise - it's an author's presentation copy. The author being Lt.-Col. Terence Otway, who as CO led the 9th Bn Parachute Regiment assault on the Merville Battery on D-Day, and then during the 21st Panzer Divn counterattacks at La Plein, for which he was awarded the DSO.
( First rule of secondhand bookdealing - always read inscriptions ! )
Very nice Martin !
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
It is only a paperback, but signed by the authors, plus this nice photo to go with the book...
