The kid has more recently decided to focus his attention (a portion of it anyway) on Soviet Militaria instead of EVERYTHING! His first interest is in the Afghan war period so here are a few of the items we have recently picked up to start with. We are assuming these items all to be authentic, some are surplus. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, there does not seem to be too much information, written in English anyway, on Soviet militaria.
Soviet Afghan lot (not the footlocker)
Ssh68 Helmet - Got a real "Been There" look, we've picked this up a few months ago.
Soviet white plastic tropical 2 liter canteen w/plastic cup and cover (dated 1982)
Surplus item I'm sure. I keep reading that these are rare but they sure don't seem to be too hard to find!
Soviet Summer Sand shirt and trousers - surplus dated 1986.
Undershirt is new from Ukraine
Tag in trousers
Tag in shirt
Very used RD-54 Airborne Assault Pack w/magazine and grenade pouches.
Lots of field repairs on this one.
RD-54 from the back
Markings on the RD-54. Unit markings maybe?
RD-54 stamp shows 1978 date.
6B2 armor vest (armor has been removed). These were the first types used very early in the Soviet/Afghan war
I believe. Lots of wear and field repairs, as well as some professional repairs it seems.
Field repais on the 6B2 armor vest.
Inside of the 6B2 armor vest.
We are now in search of an Afghan war period RD-54 chest rig, oh and the money to pay for one! The chinese knock offs are fetching close to $100 US, I think an authentic RD-54 chest rig can go for as much as $300 US if in decent condition.
