You lucky sod!....
Nice looking buckle
Do you think this was a gold finished buckle or could this have been from a heavy smokers house? A friend has an SA dagger that has a great looking gold patina and it came from a smoker.
I think at one time Kirby it was gold coloured

Crank catch buckles are neat buddy.
Just reading about the colouring of the buckles in fact this slight golden tone is caused by a coating put on by the menufacturer, these buckles were stained and then covered with Zapon, this is a colorless lacquer (farblose Lack), so a sort of varnish to protect the buckle for "colouring of the good" (Anlaufen der Ware), which can happen with metals, especially when the metal is dull. This staining and Zapon is mentioned in the RZM manufacturing-regulations from 1936 and phrased as: gebeitzt und mit klarem Zapon gespritzt. I think the stain makes this slight golden tone (patina), as after a while colorless stain turns into yellowish hue.
