fighting the rust
Hello guys,
for long years I have owned an SA dagger (will post pics of it soon for you to determine whether it is authentic, but its another story for now) and the blade seems to be slowly getting rusty. As I do not collect daggers, I have no idea what to do with it - is there a way to preserve such items? Would applying the oil used for preservation of firearms help?
I don't want to restore it in any way, I just don't want it to deteriorate.
Any help much appreciated!
A.

Re: fighting the rust
Hi guys,
thank you both, I have already applied gun oil on it and will buy some kind of museum vaseline.
I stored it last few months in a new bookcase, which, could have had bad impact on it because, as I have recently learned from various sources, such wood cases can emit glue and color fumes etc. resulting in rust, so I moved it.
Lets hope the deterioration will stop!
Regards,
A.

Have you tried renaissance wax? It may not remove existing rust or oxidisation but should prevent more from forming.
