Finn Puukko in German "Service" ...

Here´s a Puukko, I received today.


Puukko´s have still the same design like decades before and post WWII-knive´s, were, (and still are), "militarized" for the collector´s-market !

But, my stomach say´s, this one´s OK !

I like these,,and this one is very nice! They were used alot during the war but photos in use are hard to find..

This one is an original. The blade is quite short and the wooden part is half finnished or most propably made by the german soldier himself. The zigzag motive on the knob is an im imitation of laplandic decorations so maybe he got some help from yhe guy who made the blade. The snake symbol and the naivistic woundmark are totally original too and common in this type of german woodwork. The wood could be northern, very slow growing birch. Nice post!

May I ask were you got this beautiful item from? Btw.. I know the handle is only half made because it lacks a knob. No Finnish puukko maker would ever leave the tongue of the blade visible.. Could the end of the handle have been cut off by purpose (leaving the blade that should be hidden inside the handle) visible ??

I´ve got this Puukko from a collector´s-mate who´s buyin´ everything he can catch and he got this knife from a veteran.

BTW, mates, the Puukko-style blade also was used with the finn "M1939" bayonet , (attachable on the Mosin-Nagant rifle) !
