Joking aside, I'm sure that somebody will be along soon enough with an I.D. for you Matt, but I must agree with Ade, this one is not Third Reich.

WWII 'Theater made' knife, fashioned from a sword blade - possibly a 'Patton' saber.
It was common for American soldiers and seamen to make/re-work knives from
old or obsolete sword blades. Some companies or individuals in the States
even produced sword-blade knives for sale, but not with ornate grips
like this. The association with a US Marine fits perfectly, IMO.
( The knife's pommel and the attachment on the end of the scabbard
is called a Turkish, or 'Turks Head' knot. )
