Hey gents, could this be a 'Fat Man' ?? 1934 pattern, made only by Krebs..

My Grandfather use to have 3 RAD Hewers. One was a Krebs Fat Man early variant. He picked up on one of his trips to Germany. I have no pictures. I remember seeing the distinct difference like the model you show here. Wish I still had it. Believe he traded it with another collecting veteran in the late 1980’s. Very nice piece you have there and not common to come across them.

From my knowledge and learning about them over the years. The RAD production Krebs was thicker than normal RAD hewer by the other makers. "Fat Man " was caused by thick horn grip but not the unusual shape of the blade . I believe the blade of this early variant had a higher quality steel as well with earlier production. Again, can’t prove it but just my opinions and what I have heard and know of them.

Well what i have red and learned from seasoned collectors about these ones popping up in the late 70th and early 80ths being promoted by a few large us dealers at the same time not one that i desire.

gerrit, even though the late Bob Coleman had this to say of these 'My first RAD dagger was the fat man model. I bought it in 1960 for $8.00. This is years before Atwood started producing his parts and fantasy daggers. I have owned three and all were veteran acquired. In my opinion, there is no question this is a true prewar variation only made by Krebs. Those who have come to the party later can have their negative opinion on these but they are wrong' ??
