    Default Gendarmerie "Combat" Uniform

    Hello,

Presented here is the field service uniform of a reserve first lieutenant in the civil Gendarmerie. This type of tunic is often referred to as the "combat" tunic but was also utilized by civil police when working in areas not demanding the piped service tunic. Many Gendarmerie personnel were assigned to the military early in the war to function as feldgendarmerie, and they would have worn uniforms as shown here with the addition of a "Wehrmacht" cufftitle or armband.

It differs from the typical police tunic in that it is unpiped and has cuff and collar of police green rather than brown. The tunic is also made without the piped "flaps" on the rear skirt.

This particular tunic is a very nice light weight wool, and obviously rather expensive private purchase tunic.

Here is a front on view worn with the boot trousers often seen in "field" situation photos. A M42 police combat helmet is also shown. The Gendarmerie wore brown leather and accessories.

A close-up of the field grade officer's insignia in matte subdued gray thread rather than the shiny silver insignia normally seen on police tunics.

Here is the sleeve eagle which is a normal shiny bullion type which has probably been "restored" to the tunic. It should have a matte gray "field" grade eagle matching the tabs and boards.

And lastly a view of this tunic worn with an officer's grade side cap rather than a helmet.

    Thanks for looking.

The cap is very interesting. I believe it is Polish or other Eastern occupied country made as it has some interesting "non-German" characteristics, but appears to be totally original.

    Dear Matt,

Not being a helmet guy I don't have a close-up handy. I will post one when I get a chance to take a good photo.
