Gendarmerie Summer Tunic

Hello,

Presented here is a "mottled" cotton summer tunic for an NCO of the civil Gendarmerie. This "mottled" cotton, often called "1st pattern fallschirmjaeger jumpsmock material" is a flecked orange/green cotton that was actually used by the Prussian police during the Imperial period, and is still used as a traditional summer color. These tunics were utilized by all branches of the civil police and were not piped. Even the Wasserschutzpolizei utilized a naval style reefer jacket made in this same flecked green cotton.

Combat police units may have used this civil style summer tunic or a tan SS or army style summer tunic depending on assignment.

This tunic is rather unique in that it has had an orange piped brown collar applied to more closely resemble the typical police service tunic. These tunics would normally have a same material collar.

Here is a side view showing the original factory applied un-named sleeve eagle. Since the eagle is without district name we can assume that this tunic was produced late 1941.

The fabric was know as Gruenmeliert. It has an unusual appearance when seen close up, but it is one I like.
