    Great looking bird , congratulations and thanks for showing . That is the same eagle as shown on the Third Reich Eagles web site . I really don't know why it is painted black ( maybe for camouflage ? ) or when so can't help there . Maybe other members can help .

    That may not be paint...Could well be that Soot from burning Coal has embedded itself...Add years of storage and exposure to the elements...

    Are yes I see its the same eagle on third reich eagles website , that's good news ,are have to get a silver eagle to go side by side as a pair now

    The close up photo of the wreath looks like paint chipping to me - I don't think soot or diesel stain would give that effect, even with aging.

    I believe it is a thin layer of paint sprayed on during production

    It could also of been painted to camouflage the bird. Raw Aluminum stands out like a sore thumb and that would attract the Jabos if seen from a low altitude. Possibly used on a armored train or a flak train car.
