Default 19th Century U.S. Army Shako

    Dear Associates,

I am trying to identify this for one of the dealers at my antique shop.

From my limited experience, I am assuming it is U.S. Army Indian Wars period for marching band?

I also want to help him price this reasonably to make it move quickly.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Richie

Thanks Steve! It sure seems to be older than mid/late twentieth century though...

I remember our HS marching band equipment. (...I also played Soccer so I wasn't a total geek)

It was from the late 60's or early 70's and "old" by the time I used it in the very early 80's). There was no leather on our hats, all of it was pleather/vinyl. I too think this dates much earlier than mid to late 20th century.

As for what it is....I have no idea..

Further, a few google searches turned up these tidbits....

David Klein & Brothers, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, operated as a tailor from 1854 to 1927.

They retailed military swords (not produced) as well

Also, there is a book on Google from Klein:

Title: Catalogue of Uniforms and Equipments Manufactured for Bands and Military Organizations by D. Klein & Bros., 921 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA
    Author: D. Klein & Bro
    Publisher: The Firm, 1892
