Best War film?

Article about: Surprised nobody has mentioned Beneath Hill 60

    Thumbs up Best War film?

Okay so I did a search for film(s) and nothing came up, certainly not going to trawl through every post, time does not allow.

Sadly, due to the UK teaching curriculum history covering the WW is limited at best. My step daughter (now 32) didn't even know who Hitler was at 22 and I wouldn't class her as stupid. LOL.

Thought it might be a good reference guide for Hollywood or independent films / series that have graced our screens (other than those independent re-enactment youtube vids). I'm taking feature length films or public televised series.

    My favorites are
The World at War originally shown on ITV, 1973
Das Boot by Wolfgang Peterson, a personal favourite

Das Boot is a masterpiece. The World At War series is also fantastic, and also largely responsible for my interest in this part of modern history, as it was whilst watching this with my father, many years ago, that the seed was sewn. I could list many, many good WWII films, but I'd rather name just a few, and leave others to add to the thread as it progresses. For me, The Grey Zone, Schindler's List, Napola and Downfall are amongst my favourites. But the list could go on...and on...and on...

    Regards,

Already starting with great films, I know I mentioned two, albeit one a film and one a series and Tiger88 gave a couple but lets keep it to one film / one series each otherwise we may run out.

And it would prove a good reference would it not? Thumbs up or +1 etc for each accepted.

I loved Downfall just wish I spoke German so I wouldn't have to read subtitles. Europa Europa was also an interesting movie. The list really could go on and on, with the typical SPR and all those.
