Chinese Sabre (Duan Dao). Any experts ??

This Chinese sabre has been picked up by a friend of mine.
He suspects it might dated to the Boxer rebellion.

The Sabre has seen use, there are a couple of strike marks across the back spine.

The handle is of a rosewood type wood.
The whole item is 3ft long.

Any further detail about the sabre would be appreciated.
