Yesterday I purchase a relic helmet and mess tin, found in a single foxhole in Königsberg Russia. The helmet is in pretty decent condition, as well as the tin, though the tin has been hit by gunfire. On the inner back rim of the helmet, the white painted letters of the owners name are visible. WM. Sasse are what I cane make out. I tried the Volksbund website, but I know only a little bit of German, so I am having trouble finding any info. Does anyone know how I can find anything on this guy?

My theory is that the helmet and tin were left in the foxhole when the soldier surrendered to the Russians when the city fell in April 1945.
