Generally the Germans were on the retreat and thus not in a position to capture Allied vehicles and recover them especially if they were damaged (which is the main reason they would be abandoned) -the Brandenburg Regt/Division had started out as the main 'special forces' unit of the German army but had diminished in importance by late 1944 and the general dislocation of transport/logistics made any large scale special ops very difficult.

Happened to come across this whilst on Ancestry. Oberleutnant Wilhelm Kempke was killed on December 19th 1944 during the attack on Malmedy by elements of Panzerbrigade 150.
Kempkes unit listed as 1./Fallsch. Jg. Rgt. Z. B. V. This was one of the units that volunteers were taken from to form Panzer Brigade 150
