Some of my all-time favourites:

Bill Mauldin's 'Up Front' and his autobiography, 'The Brass Ring'. Bill was a
WWII war cartoonist who served in Italy and France and won the
Pulitzer Prize.

Sam Marshall's 'Bringing Up The Rear'. Marshall served in WWI, WWII,
Korea, and Vietnam.

'Brave Men' by war correspondent Ernie Pyle, who was KIA on an
island near Okinawa, April 18, 1945.

'To Fly And Fight' memoirs of WWII P-51 Mustang Triple-Ace,
Clarence 'Bud' Anderson.

'Yeager' the autobiography of General Chuck Yeager.

'U-Boat Commander' - WWII memoirs of Captain Peter Cremer,
who miraculously survived the war.

The four volume series/memoirs of Donald R. Burgett ( 'A' Co,
1st BN, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division ): 'Currahee',
'The Road To Arnhem', 'Seven Roads To Hell' and
'Beyond The Rhine'...........

I liked Rochus Misch book of memoirs and also Albrecht Wacker's one on Sepp Allerberger. Not sure if the first one was translated in english?

A wealth of knowledge! I would love to read up on some of these titles, esp U- boat Commander sounds incredible
