"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
A bloke called Weary Dunlop, a brave and decent man who saved the lives of many Australian and British servicemen on the Burma railway.
im gonna be soppy and say my grandfather Raaf Flight Sergeant Witts.
Weary would be good too but not between 1942 to 1945 .
I'm a bit soppy with Weary, I had two uncles - both brothers who were taken prisoner in Singapore, they both were forced labour on the Thai Burma railway.
the both got back Sandgroper?
sorry to be personal..
Only one got home mate, the other died on the Burma end of the railway.
It would have to be Hitler for me. I have a long list of questions that I would love to ask him. lol
3: What did you have against Jews?
4: Operation Barbarossa... what the hell was that about?
5: Why didn't you give up in say, January of 1945?
6: What did you think of the movie, "Der Untergang"?
7: Can I have your uniform?
and so, so many more...
I've had the opportunity to do this already, with my father (USMC Ret 1945 - 1975) and my grandfather who was in the Dutch Royal Army and too was held in Burma Prison Camp.
