Great lot of ephemera, I love stuff like this. While not vastly valuable in terms of money, they are invaluable to the historical record. What info is in the pay books?

Hi Jake, I assume that is South Wales Borderers, not WEST? That is one I would be interested in if you wanted to part with it if it is the South WALES Borderers.

Jake very kindly gifted the SWB ab64 to me and the ATS one as well and a big thank you is owed to him.

The SWB book is very interesting, though sadly quite damaged in a few places with pages stuck together.

From some research he joined the Wiltshire Regiment -from his service number- in 1940 but at some date transferred to the South Wales Borderers and served in India and the Arakan, as did the Wiltshires, so hard to work out when he transferred.

The only SWB Bn in the area was the 6th which was a home service battalion which then became a tank unit -the 158th Regiment RAC (The South Wales Borderers)- but was then redesignated back as infantry, so quite a complicated history for them and very interesting.

They served with distinction in the battle of the Mayu tunnels in the Arakan peninsula and also in the battle of Pinwe, the actions at Kubyin and at Myittha gap.

Rather oddly the book has had some parts of it cut out, those relating to where his parents were from, where he enlisted and where he was born and also a stamp from the corner of his photograph, which is odd as the others I have don't have a photograph in them. Also his mothers name and place of residence has been erased but you can just make out she was French and another relative was also French.

    A very interesting document IMHO.

Some pictures of most of the pages and the two other documents with it.

Includes two kit lists with the second having tropical items added and the denim over blouse and trousers.

The pages with the removed entries, the relatives in France and his discharge documents.

Thanks again to Jake for this.
