A few of the papers have colored drawings that were drawn by the son, James (Jim). On the back of one of the drawings the son wrote a note to his dad. The mother, Lu(?) also wrote a letter to her husband. The note from his son reads:

    “Dear Dad,

I love you. I hope you like the pictures.

    Father. From James”

The letter from his wife reads:

    “March 22

    Dearest Pop:

I haven’t gotten a letter for a couple of days and since I haven’t done anything of interest there isn’t anything to write.

It rained all day yesterday, again so I haven’t been able to get out in the yard.

Poor Jim sure had a bad day, day before yesterday. He and Ronald were squabbling over Jim’s gun. He wouldn’t give it to Jim so he came home just sobbing and sat down by me and all full of misery and wanting comforting. He said “mommy this has been the very worst day of my life”. Poor little guy, how big things are to them.

The sun is shining today and I hope we have some nice weather. According to the papers, the cot crop has been damaged.

The man hasn’t come about the plowing yet. Guess it’s too wet. I’m going to take the mower to be repaired today. The lawns surely shaggy.

Well as I say, there’s no news so will close for now.

    Love, kisses and best wishes,

    Lu(?) and Jim”

It looks like maybe Guam is written on the envelope so that may be where he was at the time.

Really hits home seeing letters and drawings like this.
I have one in my collection written by the wife of a Japanese soldier and it also includes drawings from his child.

No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. They’re definitely sweet little drawings.
