Sorry I can't help with guessing a location but the group photo is interesting:
I would suggest that as you see the men have only one cartridge pouch on their belt each that rather than being fighting troops that they might be drivers - as such it was common for drivers to only have one such pouch. (It can also be sometimes seen in garrison location pictures as well).

It is definitely in northern Germany. Either Lower Saxony or Schleswig-Holstein. I'm guessing Lower Saxony. But not near the coast, because the roof appears to be covered with roof tiles and not thatch. The brick half-timbered building is typical of northern Germany. Also: the windows open outwards, not inwards, which is also only found in northern Germany. And yes: it's obviosly "Totenkopf".
