Thanks guys,I am in need of a scabbard for the German 88 so if anyone comes across one even a Austrian one please let me know.best regards Paul.
-
German made M1888 bayonets are known to have been used by the Austrian army, but what's unusual with this Luneschloss example is the Prussian acceptance cypher and date 1916. By then the Gewehr M1888 was already obsolete (see 1895 Mannlicher). But 1916 was a year of odd bayonets such as the Ersatz types. So this is a rare oddity.

Hello Anderson ,I have a copy of Roy William's book on ersatz bayonets he has a couple of German made 1888s in there by the same maker and date but with the muzzle ring still intact ,Paul.
-
Ps maybe they were used by second line troops in reserve useing obsolete weapons or something along those lines,Paul.

Wout barell ring is that already only a knife, made in Bulgarian manner probably. These bayonets were never used by austrians. Only the austrian proofed.
