    Hello Guys ,Heres a couple of 1888 bayonets for comparison for anyone intrested in such things ,The one with the muzzle ring is a Austrian made bayonet and the one without is german made bayonet ,Austrian is made by OEWG, German bayonet is by PD LUNESHOLOSS DATED 1916 .Thank Paul.

    German made M1888 bayonets are known to have been used by the Austrian army, but what's unusual with this Luneschloss example is the Prussian acceptance cypher and date 1916. By then the Gewehr M1888 was already obsolete (see 1895 Mannlicher). But 1916 was a year of odd bayonets such as the Ersatz types. So this is a rare oddity.

    Hello Anderson ,I have a copy of Roy William's book on ersatz bayonets he has a couple of German made 1888s in there by the same maker and date but with the muzzle ring still intact ,Paul.

    Ps maybe they were used by second line troops in reserve useing obsolete weapons or something along those lines,Paul.

    Hello everyone ,i managed to get hold of a correct German made frog for my German made Austrian 1888 bayonet if anyone is intrested, it as a hard to read makers stamp on the back SATTL-VERB-ESSEN 1916 also there is a a pic from Roy Wlliams book Gernan bayonets 1680-1945 showing various 1888 frogs, here is a few pics.Regards Paul.

    it looks like that it would rely flop around in suckha short / supple frog, with out a retainer? congrat's on the score.

    Wout barell ring is that already only a knife, made in Bulgarian manner probably. These bayonets were never used by austrians. Only the austrian proofed.
