German Sword or Bayonet Knot? WW1 or WW2??

Would it be safe to say this is a Third Reich Infantry Enlisted Man Bayonet troddel then? But didn't the heer knots have a black leather strap then?

Hi Ron, it is a Third Reich Heer bayonet knot. It does not have to have a leather strap.

Now don't ask what unit, as these things make my head spin! I would need to get my books out.

Hey Ade, looks like you're right as usual: A friend collector also confirmed it's a Post-1928 / Third Reich era troddel and that the colors indicate 11th Infantry Company.

Matching the proper portepee, troddel or faustriemen with its corresponding imperial sword or bayonet is definitely not my strong point...

Would the below--described as a Prussian Bayonet Troddel--match a Prussian issued S98/05nA bayonet?

Ron...yes it is as described, to a point, I would state "Imperial German Army" bayonet knot, as all States, Kingdoms, Duchies and Principalties contingents would wear this troddel, not only the Prussians...it was generic throughout the Imperial Army. Being all white, it denotes 1st company, 1st Battalion.

So this would be a good match with virtually any German issued S98/05 bayonet up to 1918?
You think it looks white? Isn't it gold rather?

Ron, troddels virtually stopped been worn in the trenches after 1915 (as they got covered in mud !), and even then, had began to be dyed field grey, it looks white to me...if its gold then I have not a clue what it is !
