    hello my todays find.Did someone ever faced this strange material of the handle?propably some kind of wood but i have no idea wich one?second wuestion is about the troddel.does its colours have some special meaning like hierarchy or maybe its linked to a place of origin?

    "Jigged bone" or wood made to look like antler are known to exist in this style of messer.
    These can also be found made of metal and finished to look like antler.
    Sorry, can't help with the troddel.

    Ralph beat me to it. I was going to say that it was imitation bone.
    I also can not place the knot. I would suggest that you send a PM to Lance ( militariaone ).

    A beautiful knife. Unfortunately, I cannot assist with the troddel's identification. It may be a WWI Officer's or because of the rope style construction it may be post WWI as well.
