    They certainly are a solid piece of metal - I have a model 1871 from the same manufacturer - mine is marked B.A.XIX.13. on the crossguard and 53.R.R.15.49 on the scabbard. An excellent reference site is here Das Infanterie-Seitengewehr M /1871 .

    Al,
    Some pics of mine to keep the thread going - the manufacture date has been machined off and B.A. (depot) markings applied to the crossguard - has anyone seen anything similar?
